Samsung has lost a patent infringement case brought by Sharp involving lcds.
The US International Trade Commission (ITC) has ruled that Samsung had infringed on four Sharp patents relating to a technology that improved the picture quality of lcds. Sharp originally filed the suit with the ITC in 2008.
A Sharp spokeswoman said: "We believe that the ITC's ruling has made it clear that ITC has consistently supported Sharp's claim that LCD products of Samsung violated Sharp's patents."
However, Samsung said that the ruling will have no impact on its business. A spokesman stated: "We are fully committed to honouring our responsibility to our business partners and are taking appropriate actions to meet the market demand for Samsung lcd panels and products without any interruption."
The ITC ruling means that the South Korean company must stop selling devices in the US that trespassed on the patents.
