Converters offer wide input range
May 2009 Email to a friend

A new series of board mounted encapsulated COTS DC/DC converters offers an extremely wide input range, according to power specialist XP Power.

Converters offer wide input rangeThe MTC75 and MTC150 series has been designed for military applications and the two models, 75 and 150W variants, are available with single or dual outputs in a package measuring 61 x 57.9 x 17.3mm. The series meets MIL-STD 704B-F with no extra components and the addition of XP Power's EMI filter modules (DSF and FSO series) means they comply with MIL-STD 704 A-F and MIL-STD 1275A-D for EMI /immunity and MIL-STD 461F for conducted emissions and susceptibility.
The nominal input voltage is 28VDC. However, the input can range from +10 to + 40VDC, allowing end equipment to operate from a 12VDC source, such as in SUV vehicles used for homeland security, or 28 VDC, as used in most military platforms. Single output models are available in +3.3, +5, +12, +15 or +28 VDC outputs. Dual output models provide +/- 12 or +/-15VDC.
Control and signal pins provide the ability to inhibit output, provide thermal warning and converter shutdown, and synchronise converter frequency to an external source in the 400 – 500KHz range. An output trim function allows the adjustment of output rails +/- 10% of the nominal output voltage.
