ARM has licensed its SecurCore SC300 processor to Toshiba for use in future embedded security applications.

ARM licenses processor for secure applicationsThe processor is based on the Cortex M3 processor. Takafumi Nishijima, ARM's president, announced the plans to combine resources for mobile phone handsets and security applications.
The ARM Cortex-M3 processor forms the basis of the SecurCore SC300 processor and developed to target low cost requirements of a range of applications where memory and processor size impact device costs.
"As smartcards are required to support more complex applications and security features," Nishijima said, "the market will continue to shift from 8bit to 32bit processors. The Cortex-M3 processor based SecurCore SC300 processor provides great system performance with very low power consumption, and vastly simplifies the migration to 32bit smartcard platforms through a familiar programming environment."
