In a move which recognises the need to update an ageing broad based product portfolio, Analog Devices has introduced 18 low power dual channel a/d converters aimed at power sensitive applications.
The move is first of a series of announcements planned for the rest of the year.
"These products are based around two 'flagship' points in the market," said Jon Hall, strategic marketing and applications manager for Analog's high speed converter group. The two points are 16bit, 125Msample/s and 14bit, 80Msample/s.
Hall believes the introduction is timely, pointing to research suggesting demand for high speed data converters will grow sharply over the next few years.
Power consumption is an important parameter. "This started to creep up the selection criteria a couple of years ago," said Hall. "Wireless, test and measurement, and imaging applications are all concerned with power, although their motivations are different."
The AD9268 will address the 16bit, 125Msample/s market. "We picked this point in the market and tried to reduce power," Hall continued. "We've done that, with a consumption of less than 400mW per channel at 125Msample/s. The device will also be available in 80 and 105Msample/s variants.
Complementing these parts is the AD9258, addressing 14bit, 80Msample/s applications. This will also be available in 20, 40 and 65Msample/s variants.
Both parts include a multichip sync feature. Hall noted that systems with multiple dual channel converters need them to start in the same state. "The multichip sync feature gets them all on the same page," he concluded.
