Sensors boost focal length
20/02/2009 Email to a friend

STMicroelectronics has introduced the market’s first 0.25in optical format, 3Mpixel raw Bayer sensors with integrated extended depth of field (EDoF).

Sensors boost focal lengthThe combination of on chip EDoF with ST’s 1.75µm pixel process is said to bring excellent image quality at focus distances as little as 15cm.
The sensors also embed image enhancement filters, including four channel anti vignette to balance uneven illumination or defect correction on the fly, bringing optimum image quality and reduce tuning complexity. Apart from mobile phones, the sensors can also be used in imaging applications where the cost, power consumption or physical size are design constraints.
