China’s domestic wireless handset market is expected to grow 7% in 2009, according to market analyst, iSuppli.
The report forecasts that the market will reach 240million units in 2009, primarily due to China’s three wireless operators reducing service fees and attracting new subscribers.
Factors such as existing users subscribing to second numbers and the government’s subsidy policy for consumer electronics purchases are also expected to stimulate demand.
Kevin Wang from iSuppli forecast in excess of 90m new subscribers in 2009. He said: “Domestic authorised handset market shipments are expected to surpass 180m units for 2008. Meanwhile, the domestic grey market should decrease to 40m units for 2008 from over 50m units in 2007.”
