MEMS oscillator can be embedded 23/09/2008

MEMS, clock oscillator SiTime has unveiled what it believes to be the world’s thinnest clock oscillator. One third the height of quartz based oscillators, the SiT8002XT features programmability, robustness and reliability, along with short lead times.
Targeted at high volume portable electronics, the SiT8002XT measures 3.5 x 3 x 0.25mm and comes in a four pad XLLGA package. This allows it to be embedded inside system in package, eliminating external clock sources and reducing system design complexity.
“Consumer demand for portable electronics is driving the development of smaller and thinner semiconductors,” said Piyush Sevalia, vp of marketing for SiTime. “SiTime’s industry leading MEMS and programmable analogue technology has enabled us to offer the thinnest, most robust and reliable clock oscillator in the market, with the shortest lead times in the industry.”
Factory programmable features include output frequency (1 to 125MHz), operating voltage (1.8, 2.5 and 3.3V), frequency tolerance (±100 and ±500ppm) and standby or output enable modes.
