Making a display

The early 1990s saw the dawn of in car display systems. At first, high resolution displays were only available as expensive extras or confined to luxury models. Today, displays come in various resolutions and in various equipment packages. Consequently, car manufacturers are constantly looking for ultra slimline architectures, working to turn yesterday’s expensive extra into tomorrow’s standard fixture.
To achieve affordable in car displays, it is necessary to save costs at the system level. Recent architectures have featured separate displays and graphic control units, usually installed in different locations. Such architectures offer numerous benefits, particularly for central displays and for rear seat entertainment units and display systems where space is limited.
