The latest fpga families present equipment makers with a wealth of options. In addition to vast amounts of programmable logic and megabits of memory, the devices support processor cores, dsp and dozens of embedded gigabit transceivers. But whilst designers eagerly embrace these features, upcoming requirements are forcing them to request yet more processing resources and speedier serial interfaces.
