Cypress buys nvsram technology specialist 04/08/2008

non volatile sram, embedded memory Cypress is buying non volatile sram specialist Simtek in a deal which values the latter at $46million.
“Simtek’s nvSRAM technology combines with our S8 (0.13µm) design platform to provide outstanding features and functions for the embedded marketplace,” claimed Ahmad Chatila, pictured, executive vice president of Cypress’ Memory and Imaging Division.
Simtek’s nvSRAMs provide 15ns access times, but retain data when power is turned off. This feature is useful in applications where secure data storage is essential to system functionality. Applications for the technology include RAID data storage, industrial controls, military and avionics, medical patient monitoring and automotive systems. Chatila noted: “We are looking to integrate this technology into many of our products, including PSoC, providing an integrated control and power failure solution for complex analogue and digital systems.”
