animation, 3d technology, high performance processors Intel and DreamWorks Animation have formed a strategic alliance aimed at revolutionising 3d filmmaking technology. First fruits of the alliance will be Monsters vs. Aliens, scheduled for release in March 2009.
Intel will provide DreamWorks with high performance processing technologies, including future chips with multiple processing cores. Intel software engineers will help to optimise DreamWorks’ applications for these advanced processors. “Our objective is to significantly heighten the movie going experience using DreamWorks’ groundbreaking 3d filmmaking tools,” said Jeffrey Katzenberg, DreamWorks Animation’s ceo. “Technology plays a significant role in enabling our artists to tell great stories. By using Intel’s industry leading computing products, we will create a new and innovative way for moviegoers to experience our films in 3d.”
