Sound affects - Cover story 06/06/2008

conventional cone loudspeakers (CCL), electrostatic loudspeakers (ESL) , audio reproduction, polar pattern, dipole, loudspeaker technology, home theatre, bending wave physics In recent years, the home entertainment and home automation markets have grown into an important and lucrative sector within the consumer electronics industry. Consumers have become increasingly aware of the possibilities of distributing media around all living spaces and now have the desire and, importantly, the finances to do it.
Almost every form of media has sound capability, so the need to reproduce audio is integral to any system and in any space. However, if we want sound in every room of our design oriented home, we certainly don’t want our living spaces cluttered with boxes and wires. To satisfy our passion for sound, manufacturers are pumping up the volume by providing innovative discrete, or completely concealed, audio reproduction devices.
