Delivering power to a system used to be one of the least sophisticated aspects of product design. However, times change and power is now pushing towards the top of the designer’s list of priorities.
This change in emphasis is due, in part, to an increased focus on power efficiency. As the world goes ‘greener’, so products need to use power more efficiently. But there are also cost and size issues to contend with.
Those are the ‘commercial’ issues. Stacked alongside them are technical issues, such as isolation, drive current and dead time.
And isolation is one of the issues which Silicon Laboratories (SiLabs) is addressing with a new device family.
