Data encryption, Decryption , Security, Wide area optical networks , Basel II Capital Accord, Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) Encryption is being used to secure communication over tiny distances within a chip and on wide area optical networks spanning thousands of kilometres. The data encryption rates are also broad: from hundreds of megabits per second for on chip links to 10Gbit/s and even 40Gbit/s optical transmissions.
Securing data on the move is a growing market. Encryption technology is expanding beyond its government and military roots to become part of companies’ IT practices.
“The market began to switch in the last two years,” said Juan Asenjo, global product marketing manager at Thales e-Security. “The cost of the technology is cheaper and there has been a lot more activity involving compromised information.”
