Will CyanIDE2 be a ‘killer’ IDE?

Fabless semiconductor company Cyan has unveiled the latest version of CyanIDE, its integrated development environment supporting the Cyan microcontroller. According to the company, CyanIDE 2 extends the benefits of configurability to the board level by supporting a portfolio of external peripherals.
The graphical system offers basic editing, project management, code building and debugging elements, as well as system configuration, optimised automatic code generation and a high level abstracted peripheral driver framework.
Until now, CyanIDE was based on a proprietary C compiler and IDE technology. CyanIDE 2 has been designed to be compatible with the Eclipse platform and with the GCC based tool chain.
“Developing an embedded application using a traditional IDE is typically knowledge intensive, time consuming and error prone,” said Stephen Page, Cyan’s software group manager. “Using CyanIDE will speed time to market and allow early product prototypes to be developed with minimum effort.”
