Integration initiative 09/04/2008

Analogue ic, Mixed signal design, Analogue simulation environment Designers have, until recently, had the relative luxury of being able to specify analogue and digital components for their latest products. This meant companies producing purely digital devices could chase the ‘bleeding edge’, whilst analogue component developers could keep their products on ‘analogue friendly’ nodes and reap the benefits.
But things are beginning to change. Today, the consumer market is driving the industry. “But the consumer world isn’t analogue or digital,” said Ashutosh Mauskar, vp of product and business development for Magma Design Automation’s custom design business unit. “It’s now a mixed signal world, but it’s getting more integrated.” According to Mauskar, design is now ‘all about mixed signal integration’.
