Get real! 20/03/2008

Audio visual (AV) systems, Exhibition design , Design conceptions Fuelled by a desire to include all the ‘bells and whistles’ in their latest design concept, an over enthusiastic customer can often get carried away by shooting off ideas in every direction! But whilst the creative thinking process is an essential part of initiating the design, it’s also important to bring some reality to the proceedings.
Across the table, the system designer will be wondering how on earth he or she can make this designer’s wish come true whilst staying within the project’s budget and deadline. Often, they will need to keep the customer’s lofty ambitions in check and bring them back down to Earth by offering a pragmatic approach that not only puts some real flesh on conceptual bones, but which also provides a satisfactory conclusion for everyone concerned.
Faced with a blank piece of paper, how does the systems designer set about meeting all the design requirements? Partitioning the many larger systems into successive layers of subsystems and components requires a level of systems integration based on having the right technical interpretation, along with solid engineering skills, project management and quality production facilities.
