LSI buys Infineon hard disk business 10/03/2008

LSI is buying Infineon’s hard disk drive business for an undisclosed sum. However, the deal does not involve the transfer of staff nor ‘significant assets’.
Under the terms of the deal, Infineon will transfer its complete hard disk activities to LSI, along with ‘know how’ and an IP license. The deal also involves a design service agreement.
“Through the addition of the Infineon hard disk business, LSI has taken another significant step toward becoming the leading worldwide provider of silicon solutions for hard disk drive makers,” said Ruediger Stroh, General Manager of LSI’s Storage Peripherals Group. “We expect the acquisition to immediately accelerate revenue with a top tier customer, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies, whilst enhancing our competitive position in the desktop and enterprise space.”
