Healing light 07/03/2008

LEDs, Near infrared, Light therapy, 1072nm waveband, InGaAsP leds The very thought of healing the human body with a beam of light sounds like something from the realms of a science fiction novel. And yet even those authors would never have dreamed of the futuristic ways with which today’s medical industry employs different kinds of light technologies to cure patient’s ailments.
But by harnessing the power of leds, researchers have been exploring the healing properties of ‘light therapy’, which appears to improve memory and cognitive function amongst those suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease, as well as helping to rejuvenate hearing loss caused by age related deafness. Doctors are also using this new approach to remedy cold sores, severe acne and other ailments simply by shining high intensity invisible light from various parts of the spectrum on the affected area.
Light therapy has been proven to offer clinical benefits in many therapeutic areas. One led based innovation set to revolutionise the treatment of cold sores and alleviate suffering for thousands of people is Virulite’s Cold Sore Machine.
