The top 10 OEMs bought $91billion worth of semiconductors in 2007, according to preliminary results from Gartner. The figure is said to represent a third of all semiconductor consumption. Leading applications were pcs and mobile phones.
Hewlett-Packard was the biggest consumer, accounting for $15bn in 2007, – an 8% increase over 2006. Nokia was number two in the list, consuming $13bn worth of parts.
The Gartner report, entitled Top 10 Semiconductor Consumers, 2007 Preliminary Estimates, provides preliminary rankings for the top 10 companies worldwide. Later this year, Gartner will publish an analysis of the top 50 OEM semiconductor consumers by application for 2007.
