Bluetooth/fm transceiver combo 28/01/2008

Bluetooth, short range radio, stereo fm Combining Bluetooth with an fm radio transceiver, the single chip STLC2690 from STMicroelectronics is set to save space and costs for manufacturers, whilst delivering to stereo fm to consumers’ Bluetooth headsets.
The chip, manufactured using ST’s low leakage, ultra low power 65nm RFCMOS technology, is said to reinforce the company’s position of being able to offer the lowest power consumption in the Bluetooth world.
“(This chip) demonstrates ST’s continuing leadership and commitment to providing world class connectivity devices,” said Leon Cloetens, general manager of ST’s Connectivity Division. “The STLC2690 is the first of a wider family of 65nm connectivity solutions that will become available during 2008 and beyond.”
The chip, compliant with Bluetooth v2.1+EDR, needs only one supply voltage and is said to reduce current consumption by up to 35% compared to former generation products in 130nm technology.
Meanwhile, the integrated fm receiver is said to set a record standards for receiver sensitivity and to offer real time programmable filters for optimum search and sensitivity stability
