Intel launches 45nm processors for laptops 07/01/2008
 
45nm processors Intel has launched 16 products at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, including its first 45nm processors for laptops. Among the new products, 12 are designed for laptops and desktops products and four are for servers.
“The new products … provide consumers and businesses with the benefit of sleeker and higher performing laptops and more powerful and fashionable pcs that deliver for the most hard core gamer, high definition enthusiast and just about every other consumer demand,” said Mooly Eden, general manager of Intel’s mobile platforms group.
Intel is shipping five new mobile processors, boosting performance and battery life. A new Intel Core microarchitecture design feature, called Deep Power Down Technology, reduces the processor’s power consumption when it's not running data or instructions.
Three quad core and four dual core 45nm based processors for mainstream desktop pcs were also unveiled. The Intel Core 2 Quad and Intel Core 2 Duo processors bring more performance at a variety of pc purchase prices, with a range of clock speeds and large L2 caches.
Four Xeon processors for servers and workstations will ship later this quarter.
