Nineteen companies have banded together to form the SOI Consortium, with the aim of pushing silicon on insulator (SoI) technology into broader market use. The consortium says its mission is to promote the benefits of SoI and to reduce the barriers to its adoption. Andre-Jacques Auberton-Herve, ceo of Soitec, has been elected chairman of the organisation.
“The launching of the SOI Consortium is a thrilling moment,” said Auberton-Herve. “Soitec’s participation is driven by the needs of the end users and, as such, aims to cover the full value chain: from circuit design and substrate engineering to manufacturing, packaging and system integration. By working together, sharing best practices and reaching out to the greater electronics community, we can bring these advantages to broad new markets for the benefit of one and all.”
Charter members include AMD, ARM, Cadence, CEA-Leti, Freescale, IBM, Soitec, STMicroelectronics and TSMC.
