ARM targets Cortex-M1 at Cyclone III 11/09/2007

fpga, Cyclone III, Cortex M1, development kit ARM has launched the Cortex-M1 Development Kit, a design solution optimised for use with Altera’s Cyclone III fpgas. The kit is said to enable the seamless integration of ARM processors into Cyclone III fpgas using Quartus II design software, SOPC Builder and ARM’s RealView microcontroller development kit.
“ARM recognises the importance of servicing the fpga community and has worked to create an easy to use, out of the box solution,” said Graham Budd, general manager of ARM’s processor division. “The kit underscores our commitment to bringing the ARM architecture to fpga users at an affordable price.”
According to ARM, the development kit is a natural extension to the Cortex-M1 processor, enabling developers to reduce engineering costs by promoting the standardisation of microcontroller products on one architecture.
Danny Biran, Altera’s senior vice president of corporate and product marketing, added: “By combining ARM’s technology expertise with our Cyclone III fpgas, we are enabling the large established base of ARM users to quickly deploy their designs on fpgas at a cost effective price.”
The kit will be distributed in the UK by Arrow Electronics.
